Shelford Quality Homes is proud to announce that our Karlup display home has won major awards at the 2020 HIA CSR South West Housing Awards!
It is a great honour for us to be recognised in the building community for our hard work and dedication. This resulted in us winning the South West Best Display Home of the Year for over $400,001; the Golden Key for South West Display Home of the Year and finalists for the 2020 HIA South West Home of the Year.

Winning at the 2020 HIA CSR South West Housing Awards not only means a lot to the Shelford Quality Homes team, but it also means so much to our suppliers and trades who all contributed to the design and build of the Karlup display home. We are so proud of everyone’s efforts and achievements.
Special thanks to our Senior Interior & Architecture Designer, Rui Rosa, who designed and styled the home, and our Managing Director, John Mijacika, who is immensely recognised and valued by our industry peers.
The Karlup represents our first display home outside of the metropolitan area. To win the prestigious South West Display Home of 2020 in a geographical region that is dominated by other builders is a significant achievement.

Golden Key for South West Display Home of the Year
With the Karlup being voted as the overall South West Best Display Home for 2020, we received the Golden Key Award that gives us a direct entry into the WA Housing Awards in December. Here’s to hoping our team will receive the recognition as well!

At Shelford Quality Homes, we always try to challenge ourselves to be more forward-thinking with our designs and innovate where we can. We are dedicated to pushing boundaries by looking at trends and styles as well as sourcing materials and technologies both nationally and internationally. We wanted to show the judges our passion and commitment to the design and quality, and the Karlup was no exception.
The Karlup was designed to echo what many of our clients are looking for in a family home. A relaxed and complete haven for the whole family, embracing the West Australian love of entertaining and living.

Conventional yet intriguing
Overall, we wanted the Karlup to showcase a modern take on the Australian federation architectural style in a sophisticated way. With its name derived from the Noongar word, meaning home or heart country, the Karlup is what a family home should be – comfortable and inviting.
It’s a combination of being warm and welcoming but stunning and intriguing at the same time. Bringing a striking aesthetic, the home’s facade blends conventional materials with a traditional style in an unorthodox way. This was made possible with the use of modern, elegant colours, textures, and shapes to add theatrical impact.
The clever use of dark grey render with highlighted features of the white borders and the frieze work to the front veranda enhances the home and seamlessly integrates everything so harmoniously.
The Karlups facade blends conventional materials with a traditional style in an unorthodox way.
All about engaging the family
The Karlup was designed to have family interaction at its core – work, play, and sleep. The bedrooms are zoned to the front to offer peace and relaxation, while the orientation of the main living area is facing north and positioned at the back of the home for easy, carefree entertainment that everyone will enjoy.
The expansive games/theatre room denotes a myriad of possibilities. Seamlessly opening out to the outdoor kitchen and alfresco area, the games/theatre room comes equipped with gorgeous recessed ceilings. Its theatre-like ambience is like that of a real cinema, just without the price of a ticket.
From watching footy to playing on the pool table to hosting family barbecues or dinner parties, the home’s living areas were designed to be free-flowing and open enough to be interactive, comfortable, and offer a sense of calmness to the home. You will never run out of things to do without going out of the house!
